Ordering parts

I’ve been gathering parts for a new/upgraded computer. I picked up a 256MB stick of Crucial PC2100 RAM at Best Buy this past week for $35 after rebates. I’ve also ordered a new heat sink, fan, and rounded IDE and floppy cables. The fan I ordered is a Vantec Stealth fan, should be nice and quiet.

Next purchases will be an AMD Athlon XP processor, probably a 1700+, an MSI KT4VL motherboard, and Antec case w/ power supply. I’ve compared a few different cases and power supplies, and it seems as if the 350W Antec power supply is as good as some 450W units when it comes to the 3V & 5V combined wattage. And it shouldn’t be too noisy. I hate noisy.

I’ll reuse most of the other junk from my current computer, and maybe upgrade to a GF4 in a couple more months.

My current computer is a Pentium III 700Mhz on a Soyo SY-7VCA motherboard w/ 512MB RAM, LOAD Alpha heatsink, 15GB HD, 60GB HD, SB Live! Value, Leadtek TV2000 XP Deluxe, 3COM 3C905B, GeForce2 MX, Aopen 12X DVD, HP 9100 8x4x32 CD-RW. It lives in a CaseEdge MiniTower case with a 235W power supply. This thing is pretty load, I’m not able to fall asleep at night with it on. I’m hoping that the parts I’m getting for the new computer will make it a bit more liveable.
