What’s the weather like?

I setup a little plugin at the top left of the main page to show the weather in Muncie. It’s using AMK4’s weathernws plugin to grab the weather and print it out on the page.

I’m also using tima’s mt-rebuild plugin to rebuild the main index. Right now, I’m updating the page every three hours — no need to add more stress to NOAA’s servers really. Pretty neat plugin, maybe I can find some more things to use it for.

New Color Scheme

I got bored last night and decided to change my color scheme around. Got it fixed up to my liking this morning. Seems to be a bit easier to read.

Oh, I’m also now blocking RIAA and MPAA IP addresses from my domain. Click the little button on the left for information on why.

If you have a Netgear router

You may want to upgrade the firmware on your router if you have one of these routers.

That page details an accidental DDoS attack against the University of Wisconsin from those routers. Basically, they try to sync their clocks against a wisc.edu server and are flooding their network. wisc.edu is doing their best to deal with the flood, but I’m sure it is driving their bandwidth bill through the roof and driving their network admins insane.

Be a nice netizen.

Thanks Ball State

I spent my afternoon detailing the outside of my car. Washed with dish soap, then clay barred it, washed again, then waxed with S100. It wasn’t time for my annual clay barring, I just did it in April. But I noticed little black specs all over the front of my car — including my freshly painted bumper! Little specs of blacktop! The lot I park in at school was partially repaved at the beginning of August — they cut out big patches around potholes and repaved the area. There were two days that I didn’t have a rental while they were paving, that’s gotta be when the specs got all over my paint. Ball State University — everything you need, and some things you don’t; I sure as hell didn’t need to spend my Sunday afternoon with a little ball of clay in my hand! Oh well, at least my car looks nice now.

Hard… drive…. clicking…

I went in to work yesterday, fearing the worst in regards to the MS.Blaster worm crap, only to be faced by something worse. Guy’s hard drive had been clicking for a week and he finally decided to tell us about it. Ugh. Windows was moving SOOOOOOOOOO SLOOOOOW, it wasn’t even usable. He has TONS of documents and such on the computer, including a 350+MB Outlook PST archive. Gotta save it all.

Booted up the laptop with a Knoppix CD, login to an SMB share, and start copying things.. Some of the documents are corrupt, he’ll just have to deal. But the PST file.. hmm. I get about 30 megs copied and it craps out. Does that a couple times. I get the bright idea to setup an FTP server on the computer and try to get the file that way. No dice. Spend about 5 hours of my day working on it, in between a couple other things. Finally give up for the day.

Today, I went in and messed around some more. No luck. The thing felt pretty warm, so I popped the hard drive out to feel it. It was quite uncomfortable to hold. Odd. So I leave the cover off and try some more. I finally get up to about 200MB. I start the process again, and get bored and decide to spray some compressed air on it.. I’m sure it didn’t really do anything, but I got the file copied and kept myself entertained. Yay!

Meanwhile, my boss was busy playing Yahoo games the entire time… Sigh.

Little Duckies

I was over at mom’s house tonight, sitting outside with Grandma and her friend. We were feeding the ducks some stale hot dog buns and they were loving life. About 25 ducks were around, but only 7 babies and their mama were brave enough to get close to me where I was throwing the food. There was even an ugly Canadian Goose out there that was hissing at anything that moved.

I walked around to the side of the house and noticed that the ducks kinda walked towards me. Then I went to sit back down and they walked back up to me again. Hmm.. those ducks sure do like me. I walked around the yard a little and the ducks seemed to follow me wherever I went. So I got a piece of bread and walked about 50 yards down the shoreline was I threw off pieces, ducks followed the entire way. How cute :)

Your computer is vulnerable!

YOUR COMPUTER IS VULNERABLE!!! The MPAA has opened a new website on firesharing. They say that just by being on a file sharing service your personal information is vulerable. FUD if I’ve ever seen FUD. File sharing may be immoral or illegal or whatever, but saying that my social security number is vulnerable just because I login to eDonkey is absurd. The entire site is rather comical, and even has some lame-o techno song playing on the intro page.
