What’s the weather like?

I setup a little plugin at the top left of the main page to show the weather in Muncie. It’s using AMK4’s weathernws plugin to grab the weather and print it out on the page.

I’m also using tima’s mt-rebuild plugin to rebuild the main index. Right now, I’m updating the page every three hours — no need to add more stress to NOAA’s servers really. Pretty neat plugin, maybe I can find some more things to use it for.

When I was setting up the plugin, I had to ask my host to install the Geo::WeatherNWS CPAN module. Once that was installed, the plugin worked perfectly, but only when I rebuilt the pages by hand. Not something I want to do all the time. That’s when I decided to use the mt-rebuild plugin. I was trying to run it from my “jailshell” while ssh’d in to my server and it just wasn’t working. I kept getting “Use of uninitialized value in split at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/Geo/WeatherNWS.pm line 258.” everytime I’d try to run the rebuild script. After messing around with it for an hour or so, I decided to add a cronjob and see what happened. Whatta ya know, it worked. Sometimes that jailshell thing can be pretty annoying.
